One evening while talking to a Fiero buddy I mentioned that I was working on a Van for the winter, but was complaining that it would be hard on fuel. He mentioned that his neighbors were trying to give away a Jetta with upwards of 600,000 km's on it and that I should come get it, so I did. And this is a page about what I did to the car.
Volkswagen Jetta: This Jetta is gone

MKII Volkswagen Jetta
Well I realize it has been a couple of years but I'm bored at work so I thought I would throw in an update/closing remarks on this car. The Jetta was retired due to the engine cradle starting to pull away from the subframe and a few other "major" body issues. I sold the rims off the car and ended up selling both the Carat I had on the road and the one I had for parts to a friend who wanted the "goodies" off of them. Eventually the cars were stripped and sold for scrap. I saved a few parts from each before I let the cars go. I've actually used a few bits here and there along the way with my other assorted cars.

Volkswagen Jetta: 3 Days later, Hello #19

MKII Volkswagen Jetta
Three days after I traded the VW Golf I had picked up for the 1994 Lada Niva, I picked up another VW Jetta Carat - this one a 1989. I picked up the car because I still need front fenders, a fender flair for the drivers side, and a front drivers side door. This car is also fully loaded so in time I hope to merge some of the more desireable features with the Lada.

Its a wonder my parents don't kill me, I have 4 cars and a Bombarder J-5 in my front yard at the moment..

Volkswagen Jetta: a VW Jetta with a French Plate

MKII Volkswagen Jetta
I have a friend in France (Martin) who was kind enough to send me an old French liscence plate that he had. He figured it would look better on the front of my car than on his wall - and I think he is correct! Thank-you Martin! I do like the plate - but I put it on crooked and have to fix that!

 Volkswagen Jetta: Traction!

MKII Volkswagen Jetta
When I picked up the 88 Golf for parts I had no idea that it would have aluminum Rims on it, nor did I know it would have a set of really nice winter tires inside. Because the wheels on my car were 14", and everything on/in the Golf were 13", I had the winter tires mouned on the aluminum rims and mouned them on my car. I'm not all that fond of the Aluminum, but they'll last me the winter no problem.
